Seeing Success In Failure

Silhouette of a man on a rock with arms spread wide, finally realising that failure is not the end, just a step nearer to success...

Seeing success in failure is having faith that all is not as it seems, that failure is not the end, but just another step on the way to realising your dreams.

Embarking on any new journey, including embracing your free spirit after years of hiding who you truly are, means moving into unfamiliar territory, which can be quite challenging.

So it’s natural that when difficulties arise and things appear to go wrong, your default reaction is to think you’ve failed.  And so often we think of failure as the end of the road, rather than simply a bump on the road.

I’ve heard this being referred to as a test from the Universe – but I don't believe there’s any such thing as the Universe testing you – it’s simply that there is something you still need to learn, or let go of, before your vision can manifest.

Someone very wise once said the only way to fail is to give up.  But being faced with apparent failure can be incredibly disheartening, so it's easy to feel discouraged and forget that each failure is just another step closer to success.

Failure is a part of life, and you already know that - but sometimes we just need reminding.  This is why we never tire of hearing stories about those who are now household names, but experienced repeated failure before they were famous.

  • Walt Disney was told he lacked creativity,
  • Oprah Winfrey was told she would never make it on television,
  • J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) was told she would never make money selling children’s stories.

Just to name a few.

The only reason any of these people became so well known despite these setbacks is because they were able to see success in failure, they kept their eyes on their vision and followed their hearts despite the outward appearance of the situation.

Every great work, every big accomplishment, has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision, and often just before the big achievement, comes apparent failure and discouragement.

Learning To Find Success In Failure

When you let go of the idea that things should look a certain way, you allow for the magic of life to guide you.  You begin to believe in the possibility that things ARE going the right way – but you just can’t see it yet.

Here are 4 ways you to begin to see your own success in apparent failure:

Enjoy the journey and let go of trying to control HOW things manifest.

Often failure is just a warning sign that you’re holding on too tight, that you need more flow and ease in your day to day journey, living in the moment more, not always focusing on the future.

It’s about letting go of having to have things be a certain way, and feeling that you have to be in control all the time otherwise your dreams won’t manifest.

Even as a free spirit you may have fallen into this trap, because despite your strong desire to be free and easy about things, it’s sometimes hard to resist trying to force what you want to happen, and therefore becoming too attached to the outcome.

The result of this is that you begin to dislike the journey, your vibration changes, and you encounter even more difficulties.

The answer is to allow the perfect outcome to arrive by being in the vibration of what you want to manifest, but let go of the details at the same time.

Let go of the idea of exactly what your success should look like.

Often we’ve become so obsessed with how everyone else sees success, that we lose touch with what it actually looks like for US.

When one of my businesses took a downturn – I saw that as massive failure.  But it forced me into a situation where I need to do something fast – so I did the only thing I could think of, which was something I’d wanted to do for ages – I started a dog walking business.

By doing that I discovered many latent talents, I spent 5 years loving what I was doing every day – and it taught me firsthand to see the success in failure, because I realised that the truth was, I hadn’t been happy beforehand anyway.

I’d been basing my happiness on other people’s values with the result that I'd ended up on a path, which, if I’m honest, I'd begun to hate.  The ‘failure’ that led me to start my dog walking business was, in hindsight, the best thing that could ever have happened to me.

I recognised the success in failure.

So keep in mind what success really looks like to you, and if you’re feeling unhappy following your dream, perhaps it isn’t really your dream at all.

Realise that behind every apparent failure is a limiting belief or past fear coming up to be healed.

We all have fears and limiting beliefs that lay dormant until they’re challenged.  And the only time they will be challenged is when we head out on a new path.

Whatever the reason you’ve given yourself for not following your dream before, in reality it’s usually based in fear or lack of belief, so it’s only natural that these little gremlins will appear at some point in your journey in order to be dealt with.

This is the point where many say things like – you see, I knew I’d be no good at this, or I must have been crazy to think I could pull this off,  and then give up.  But the beauty of seeing success in failure is that you realise that by facing that fear you take yourself one step closer to manifesting your vision.  And it’s as simple as putting one foot in front of the other… learning as you go.

Always expect the unexpected.

By definition when you’re doing something new, you’re going into unchartered territory - so it stands to reason that things will happen that you don’t expect.  And when something takes an unexpected turn, we have a tendency to immediately see that as failure – when in fact it’s really another stepping stone to success.

Allow those unexpected events to be signs that there may be an easier, faster way to your goal, rather than demanding it be unfold the way you think it should.

Life will always throw up twists and turns, and sometimes that can be unsettling, or even downright scary.  But things are not always as they seem... and those hiccups are often just the Universe trying to get your attention.

Take notice, and learn to see success in failure, and you'll be able to use all these situations as ways to grow and learn, rather than seeing them as a sign to give up on your dream.

The ultimate success in life, is living the life YOU were meant to live, doing things your way and embracing your free spirit.  If you want to find out more about how you can do that and thrive, download the first part of my brand new course below - absolutely free:
