6 Ways To Start Changing Your Life From Struggle To Flow

One single drop of water creates ripples that reach far. One little change can turn your whole life around

Changing your life experience from the paradigm of fear, struggle and control, to one of flow, ease and grace may seem fairly challenging – but actually it’s not as hard as you might think.

We humans have created this way of life that is full of striving, controlling and forcing – but it’s not our natural way of being. Our natural state is to live in the flow of life, allowing ourselves to be guided by that voice from within.

It's also not in our inherent nature to feel limited – our natural state is to live in complete abundance and joy and to trust that all we need will be provided.

Follow Your Bliss

Of course there are things to do – but they are born out of inspiration, not out of obligation or fear.

In his bestselling book, Illusions - The Adventures Of A Reluctant Messiah (a brilliant little book), Richard Bach wrote a parable that highlights the journey of changing your life by letting go of fear and struggle and allowing the Universe to guide you:

“Once there lived a village of creatures along the bottom of a great crystal river.

The current of the river swept silently over them all - young and old, rich and poor, good and evil, the current going its own way, knowing only its own crystal self.

Each creature in its own manner clung tightly to the twigs and rocks of the river bottom, for clinging was their way of life, and resisting the current what each had learned from birth.

But one creature said at last, ‘I am tired of clinging. Though I cannot see it with my eyes, I trust that the current knows where it is going. I shall let go, and let it take me where it will. Clinging, I shall die of boredom.’

The other creatures laughed and said, ‘Fool! Let go, and that current you worship will throw you tumbled and smashed across the rocks, and you will die quicker than boredom!’

But the one heeded them not, and taking a breath did let go, and at once was tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks.

Yet in time, as the creature refused to cling again, the current lifted him free from the bottom, and he was bruised and hurt no more.

And the creatures downstream, to whom he was a stranger, cried, ‘See a miracle! A creature like ourselves, yet he flies! See the Messiah, come to save us all!

And the one carried in the current said, “I am no more Messiah than you. The river delights to lift us free, if only we dare let go. Our true work is this voyage, this adventure.”

But they cried the more, ‘Saviour!’ all the while clinging to the rocks, and when they looked again he was gone, and they were left alone making legends of a Saviour.”

Changing Your Life From Struggle To Flow

Changing your life experience from what you've always known requires you to have the courage to trust yourself and the Universe before you have evidence that your trust will be rewarded.

But if you don’t have that trust – that’s also OK because you can build it.  Start with smaller things, things that you don’t see as a big risk, journal about what happens and gradually you'll build up trust.

1. Be authentic – being yourself means having a clear connection to spirit.

When you’re pretending to be someone else, putting on a mask and pretending to be something you’re not, you’re disconnected from who you really are

Even if you only do that part of the time, say at work, it means that in that part of your life, what you really want will have a much harder time manifesting.  Your vibration is not in alignment with what your heart desires, and you’re not in tune to hear the inspiration, intuition and inner messages that guide you to making that dream a reality.

Start shedding the disguise you wear and show your real self to the world.  Yes, it's scary - but you may be surprised at the positive reception you get...

2. Be completely honest with yourself about what it is you REALLY want

Often when we’re in that mode of trying to be something we’re not, we actually bury our true desires.  It could be through pain – feeling that your dream is impossible and it will never happen, or it can be because you were told so many times you could ‘never do that’, that you believed it.

Dig down, what is it you really want?  It’s OK to not be what everyone else wants you to be, or even what you thought you wanted to be. Whatever you want is valid and it’s YOUR expression… Don’t deny it.

We are born perfect, but spend a lifetime trying to be something we are not, and then feel inadequate for failing. Your only purpose is to BE YOURSELF, otherwise you will deprive the universe of who you came here to be.

3. Believe in the possibility – even if you don’t really believe that you can live your dream.

When your ideal seems an impossible dream, it's hard to have an unshakeable belief in your ability to make it happen as some people would advocate.

The truth is, you don't need that level of belief in yourself, or your ability to make your dream come true.  All you need to believe is that it's a possibility, even though you have no idea of what to do or how it can manifest

When you look for it there is evidence everywhere of people doing ‘impossible’ things… because, actually, nothing is impossible.  And if you have a dream, you have it for a reason – to bring it to life.

4. Let go of the idea that you already know everything

Get rid of the idea that you know it all.  You don't.  If you're changing your life, it stands to reason that you're going into new territory - and there will be all sorts of things you have no idea about.

When you know everything – you leave absolutely NO room for miracles… And miracles happen all the time!  But when you know it all already, you just don’t see them.

Be open to hearing inspiration and trusting it without having to know how it will all work out – how it all connects.

5. Stop resisting change – allow your life to flow in its unpredictable, mysterious and magical way.

Life will always change.  Everything changes.  Whilst you resist changing anything, you get stuck in a rut, your life becomes stagnant, there is no growth and nothing new can flourish.

Get out of your own way and flow with change… recapture that inquisitive wonderment you had as a child and allow more magic into your life.

6. Your only job is to feel joy as much as you possibly can… in each moment.

If you only follow one step – make it this one.  If you can feel joy or as close as you can to joy as often as possible, all the other steps just happen.

This doesn’t mean pretending you’re happy when you’re devastated by some unexpected event.  It means in each tiny moment, choose a better feeling

So, if you're stuck in a job you hate and you can't leave it right now, find some small way to feel better, to feel happier in each moment.

It might be to say a kind word to a colleague, or share a laugh together.  It might be to decide in that moment that your life is worth more, and you're going to find another job.

Whatever it is.. each moment holds the potential for light or dark, it’s up to you what you choose to see.

And once you start doing this you'll be amazed at how things shift quite unexpectedly… suddenly your awful manager leaves, or an invitation appears from nowhere to do something you love.

Magic does happen… but you need to allow it the opportunity to show up.

Changing your life by moving from the old paradigm of struggle and hiding who you really are,  to allowing yourself to be in the flow and your true self to shine, may seem scary.  But when you start to move in that direction, even in a small way, you'll find you get guided each step of the way, if you listen within.
